When he was 16 he joined Armada Football Club, Later to become Basildon United. He initially played as a striker & in 1967-68 he was voted sportsman of the year. On Sundays he played for Lee Chapel North.
In April 1973 he decided upon a career change and joined the Police Force, serving 20 of his 30-year service in the Basildon area. He both played and managed the Basildon police football team, playing in his younger years as a striker, then as an attacking midfielder and finally as a sweeper. the police team won 6 league titles 4 challenge Cups and 8 inter-police titles. They played home games at the current Basildon United Stadium in Gardiners Close. The last ten years of his service was with the Major Investigation Section as Inquiry Team Leader and Office Manager, dealing with the most serious crimes within the County.
During his police force service and whilst at Basildon United he was heavily commited to and involved in charitable events, using his contacts within the community to organise and sponser events. Since retiring from the police force he now works for Basildon Hospital Security Department, which allows him more time to work with David Cusack, formulating policy that will secure the future aims and ambitions of Basildon United; far beyond their lifetime. Their vision of the future includes making football available to all irrespective of age or gender, to develop the skills of the more talented youngsters to their full potential and make Basildon United a team that New Town residents will be proud to support.
